Greetings Mainers and Downeasters, Todd here! Like all true Pine Tree State denizens, I like to be independent and live freely. From Augusta to Auburn, from Biddeford to Bangor, I love to rome our proud state. There is no place on earth more beautiful, and I couldn't be prouder - of my beloved Sea Dogs, of Liv Tyler, of all of the Stephen King books set in Maine, heck even of Olympia Snowe.
Now I know that many New Englanders shun the banks and insurance companies, and with good reason too. If recent history has taught us anything, it is that the banks and insurance peddlers don't care about us - they are in it to make money, and will get bailed out by the government if things go wrong.
It isn't fair, but it is what it is. A true Mainer stares facts in the face.
Despite all that, we need to use their products. We need insurance - for driving, particularly in bitter winters (or temporary car insurance for you summer people), for our homes (or holiday homes, you know who you are), and of course health insurance.
So we have created this guide for you, so that you can read up, be clear on the facts, and make independent choices.
